Level of difficulty: Medium What you will need: cardboard naturl twine scissors and/or craft knife ruler hole punch (optional) something small and round (about 2"diameter) to trace Cut (3) 8x8 pieces of cardboard Cut (1) 12x12 square of cardboard Cut (2) 6x12 inch rectangles of cardboard Score 1 inch from each edge on the 8inch squares. Cut out the corners. Punch a hole in all the corners of the 8" pieces On the rectangles, on both long edges, punch holes at 1/2", 2 1/2", 5 1/2", 8 1/2", and 11 1/2". Trace three circles down the side- to where each falls in the center of the pattern of holes, as illustrated. The end with holes at 1/2" and 2 1/2" is now the top. Trace circles in the corners of two 8inch pieces and the 12" piece- being sure to leave 1/2" margin from the score line. Punch holes at the top and bottom of each flap of the 12inch piece. (About 1/2" and 2 1/2" from the edge) Cut out the holes in all the pieces carefully. Fold the 8" and 12" pieces on the score lines. The piece without the hole is the bottom. The 12inch piece is the top lookout. Use twine to thread through the holes and tie securely, cutting off any excess twine. The flaps of the bottom and levels will bend downward and the top lookout will bend upward. Another view of the finished product. User-friendly twine Twine is nearly impossible to thread through holes in cardboard as it is. It tends to fray terribly. Using scotch tape and wrapping the ends of twine will make this task a lot easier. It may be necessary to use a pencil to help push the twine through the hole.
