Bins
are a very inexpensive, roomy and easy-to-clean cage for hamsters. With a
little modification, a bin can become a mansion for your hamster. They are
large plastic tubes that are used to store all sorts of household goods.
Chances are your family has some to put Christmas Decorations, winter
clothes, or keepsakes in. They come in all sizes and colors and cost a
fraction of what most hamster cages cost.

With a little
modification, a storage bin can become a very large, roomy and virtually
escape proof cage that is light and easy to clean and will save you enough
money that you can splurge on food, bedding and toys, if you like. You can
put a little or a lot of effort into making a bin- make it sufficient or
ideal. Everything that you need to know about bin cages, how to make them,
where to get them, what to put in them later are here on CritterScoop
Hamster FAQ. The bin cage instructions here are the most thorough and
easiest-to-follow you are going to find- and my method of building the lids
is unique, safest for your hamster, and the most efficient in materials,
tools, and cost.
I have been using
bin cages for several years now, and I have made a good many of them- some
not so good, some were just a bad idea, but eventually I landed on the
method described here. This will produce the sturdiest, safest, and tidiest
looking cage possible. I will not use anything but bin cages at this point
in time, and I encourage anyone buying any of my precious babies to either
build or pay me to build a bin cage for their hamster. There is no other
cage that is going to make your hamster this happy and healthy or save you
the money that can be spent on more important things- like sunflower seeds! |
