Welcome to The CritterScoop Syrian Hamster FAQ

by jennawing

These articles are based on my many years experience as a hamster-keeper, breeder, and hamster forums administrator and moderator and on the research I have done on hamster before ever owning one up to this day. Hamsters are a creature very close to my heart and a subject I never tire of. Any new information I read or observations I make are added here to help all hamster owners and lovers. The most important thing is that all hamsters have a chance to be happy and healthy and that all hamster owners can enjoy their pet entirely. The only thing that I ask of you in return is to respect my time and work and do not reproduce these articles elsewhere. You are very welcome to link to the FAQ and please feel free to share the address with other hamster owners.

These are the questions that new hamster owners ask most frequently. This is the information that you need to know about hamsters before bringing one home and the information that I expect anyone taking home a hamster I breed to read and learn beforehand. Articles are updated frequently when new information is discovered and new articles are added when people email me new questions that I feel others can benefit from as well. I am always wanting to improve the content of what is here, and when time and opportunity allows, I add more photo illustrations, videos, etc to help enrich the information.

There are many articles here that can apply to other small species commonly kept as pets, but the FAQ focuses on Syrian Hamsters. The FAQ does not cover some of the more serious or rare health or medical concerns. These are things that I have had no experience with and feel a vet consultation would be the appropriate route. No information here is intended to take the place of a vet's attention. Any questions you have, feel free to contact me by email or through CritterScoop forum.

I hope that you find what you need to know, get some great new ideas, and learn something that will make you and your hamster very happy!
